   2010 Candidates - Experience Counts!

A letter from Chuck and Carol to the Community

Chuck and I are sending this …our last note to the community before everyone casts their vote tomorrow.

We may no longer have students in the district but we have experienced all levels in the K-12 program where our opponents have limited experience at the elementary level only.  We are also district stakeholders.  Anyone who lives in this community is a stakeholder.  Many difficult decisions are headed our way with the funding cuts we face from Lansing.  And when making decisions that affect all our children we can draw from experiencing our programs at every grade level and not by hearsay.  We have firsthand knowledge from our children and other graduates on how Ferndale Schools prepared them for college or life in general. We're extremely proud of our contributions.   We've helped this district move in a positive direction and it would be our privilege to serve another 4 years.  Ten years ago Chuck had the courage to initiate the changes needed to bring us where we are today and keep us out of receivership.

We in no way are negating what our opponents are offering.  It can all be done at the building and committee levels.  What they cannot bring at this time is a knowledge base or even the beginnings of a knowledge base of how our district works and why it works; their learning curve will be huge.  They have not served on any Board Committees nor attended a Board meeting until deciding to run for office. We bring objective reasoning.

We encourage you to vote to keep the current Board intact.  If Chuck and I are elected, the board will have two new members with a year or less experience with new ideas, it will have members with children from grade school to college, it will have members with 7 different professional backgrounds, it will be a board with a proven record of dedication, commitment supporting good ideas that move this district forward for all four communities and all our students.  If our opponents are elected we will have a board that will be 50% new with little or no Board level experience.

Before making your final decision we urge to compare our Board level experience and our experience at levels of K-12 education.   We urge you to visit all the websites and read the articles and letters on line.  Review the forums and be an informed voter.  We believe if you keep an open mind while educating yourself, you will come to the only logical decision.  We will all live with the outcome of this election.  It is the most important School Board Election in the last 10 years.

With great appreciation for allowing us to serve the schools,

Chuck Moeser and Carol Frederick

I have been involved in the school district for my entire life; grade school thru high school, married and brought my family up in the best district in the state of Michigan.  I am proud to be able to give back to the community in many ways and that the community has supported me over the past 19 years.  This Board has been extremely committed to work together as a team to make sure we are on the right track to be a sustainable district that offers full service programs that provide educational opportunities to all students in the district.   I am running for School Board to maintain the path forward of improving MEAP scores, continue to improve the district's financial state and make sure all our students are prepared for the rapidly changing future.  This district has made many improvements in the last several years and that work needs to continue.   The Community has been extremely supportive of the entire district.  The Board leads with effective policies and the Administration, staff and teachers lead with one of the best educational programs available in Michigan.  The teamwork amongst all these levels has shown that with hard work and dedication, this district can and will continue to achieve extraordinary results.

CBE is proud to support incumbents Chuck Moeser and Carol Frederick who are running for another term of the Ferndale School Board of Education.  Chuck and Carol have both been part of a courageous School Board that has been nationally recognized for their innovative programs by winning a 2010 Magna Award.   This board has supported the plan to consolidate schools in a grade-centered approach and the initiative has stabilized operations through the efficient use of precious educational resources.  It has also afforded all students in the District equal educational opportunities.

The use of a community schools approach has kept Ferndale Schools out of fiscal crisis while state funds have been reduced year after year.  Community Schools also allow the District to concentrate more effectively on improving student MEAP scores and making buildings available for magnet programs like Open Classroom, the Multiage Program, CASA and the University High School, all of which offer students and parents a choice of educational models.

Unlike many other school districts, this Board has insured that Ferndale Schools are not in financial crisis.  The future of the Ferndale School District has been secured by innovative programs supported by Chuck and Carol that focus on student achievement and increasing District revenues from alternative sources while state funding decreases.  Ferndale Schools remain a full service district that offers an excellent fine arts program as well as many extra-curricular activities for student enrichment.  Students participate in the FIRST robotics competition, athletic team sports, a State Championship band, as well as excellent orchestra, choir and theater programs.

Carol and Chuck support the Schools of Choice program while limiting the number of students from outside the District to 15% of building and District enrollment.  By limiting the schools of choice enrollment, our schools remain dedicated to Ferndale District residents.  A very successful exception to this policy is the University High School program which draws students from the tri-county area.

Chuck and Carol recognize the positive contribution a diverse District brings to the academic and non-academic experience of all students.  They have worked diligently to insure that the district's K-12 programs represent that diversity.

Carol and Chuck listen to community concerns and have adjusted programs and policies when appropriate.  The improvements in the achievement levels of our students have shown that a quality education is accessible to each and every student the Ferndale School District.

Votes for Chuck and Carol are votes for experience, fiscal accountability, and a commitment to continue to improve academic standards and results.
